Discussion about how Google does what it does so well…
Confused About SEO? Let Google Teach You!
Oct 17th
There’s alot of controversy over SEO (Search Engine Optimization ).
What’s Black Hat, Grey Hat, White Hat, Acceptable or not Acceptable…
Not to say that there isn’t a ton of information on the web explaining it and there’s certainly no shortage of SEO guru’s out there willing to sell you an optimization package for your site.
The problem is: Who Can You Trust?
Well, the good news is, Google is now teaching us how to optimize our sites for their search engine. Who better!
Now I know Google’s not the only search engine out there…
But if you can rank high in Google SERPs, chances are pretty good you’ll rank in the others as well, not to mention the fact the Google still provides and owns the Lion’s share of the results when it comes to user searches.
So I suggest you head on over to Google’s Updated SEO Starter Guide and start applying what you learn to all of your sites asap!
The best part about Google distributing a list of SEO techniques for your site, even if we already knew most of them, is that now they actually have Google approval, which means we no longer have to second guess ourselves and wonder if we’re doing the right thing or wasting our time…
Take advantage of Google Webmaster Tools as well (unless you’re the paranoid type – but that’s another post for another day)
Have fun and Optimize like you’ve never optimized before!
Yellow Pages To Clock In 39% Of Revenues From Digital Offerings By 2014 [BIA/Kelsey]
Jul 26th
Yellow Pages is set to benefit from the global growth of digital offerings and will derive 39% of its revenues from “video, SEM/SEO, mobile, social and reputation management” by 2014, according to a study by research firm BIA/Kelsey.
In the U.S., BIA/Kelsey sees strong growth coming from what it calls “the more established digital offerings, including Web sites, SEM and video” although reputation management, SEO, social and mobile should be the main expansion drivers. The expected compound annual growth rate (CGAR) for digital revenues stands at 17.2% in the U.S., the research firm said in a statement.
In Europe, digital revenues “will surpass print revenues across Europe by 2014, and even sooner in several markets, including Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Belgium and France,” it predicted.
Estimates for Latin America are more precise, as BIA/Kelsey expects digital to account for 11.8% of revenues by 2014, almost doubling the 6.2% contribution from 2009.
In Asia, the Pacific Rim and the rest of world (ROW), digital revenues “will grow by $446 million during the forecast period, a 12.8 percent CAGR.” Emerging markets such as China will grow directly through mobile, “bypassing print and Internet Yellow Pages,” it said.
Overall, “we expect to see certain publishers outperforming our forecast,” said Charles Laughlin, BIA/Kelsey senior vice president.
The data is part of BIA/Kelsey’s Annual Global Yellow Pages Forecast (2009-2014)
News Picks: Starbucks Big On Facebook, EarlyBird & Disney, Facebook Ownership Lawsuit
Jul 25th
An overview of some of today’s ad/tech news not to be missed.
Starbucks Biggest Brand On Facebook
It’s official, coffee chain Starbucks is now the biggest brand on Facebook, as it now counts over 10 million fans. The first public figure to have reached that level is music artist Lady Gaga. InsideFacebook, which keeps statistics on Starbucks on the social platform, said the chain’s page is consistently one of the top 20 fast growing ones. The company “consistently has an update or promotion for every occasion,” it noted, which is probably why fans are flocking in.
Disney Studios First To Feed Twitter’s Earlybird
Speaking of promotions, Twitter has announced that Walt Disney Studios is the first company/brand to offer discounts on its fresh @earlybird account launched just last week. As anticipated, the offer is valid for followers in the U.S. only and gives a special “buy one, get one free” deal on tickets for “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” the new feature film from Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films.
Facebook Steps Up To The Plate In Ownership Case
This is also about an alleged deal involving Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The deal was supposedly broken and therefore would entitle Wellsville, N.Y., resident Paul Ceglia to own 84% of Facebook, according to a lawsuit filed by the man. The Wellsville Daily first reported on the case, which already resulted in a temporary restraining order issued late last week by a state court judge in Allegany County, N.Y., banning the social site from transferring assets. Disputing the claim and asking the court to lift the ban, Facebook filed papers with the U.S. District Court in the Western District of New York, arguing that “It is clear even from the sparse filings in state court that [Ceglia] is not entitled to any preliminary injunctive relief in this case,” Mediapost reported. Let’s keep an eye on this “outlandish” claim, as Facebook tags it.
