Oct 8th
When doing Search Engine Optimization for any of your own sites or those of your clients, it really helps to know some of the really cool tricks that Search Engines like Google offer you in order for you.
In face, when doing any SEO research on your own sites or those of your competitors these tools can be an invaluable resource and save you a ton of time. One of my favorites is “link commands.”
If you have never heard of link commands before, don’t let name intimidate you. Link commands are really just a fancy way of using Google (or Yahoo!) search in a special way in order to see lots of hidden information about the sites you are doing research on.
So today I wanted to share some truly helpful Google’s link commands (these work in Yahoo! as well) in order to help you do a better job doing SEO on your own sites, or to make your services more valuable to your clients.
Plus, keep in mind that you can use these Link Commands for SEO in order to check on the performance of your website(s) and even your competitor’s website(s).
Using these special commands is really simple and quick too, as they are really just special search strings that you type in to the search box of Google or Yahoo.
To use them just type the command into the Google’s search box. Google commands always look like this – “command:query”
Here you go, have fun!
link: YourWebsite.com – Displays other pages that link TO your URL. (You can put your competitors in here as well;)
related: YourWebsite.com – Shows other related websites Google has in its index, that they think are related to this URL.
site: YourWebsite.com – Restricts search to this domain only – Displays all the pages Google has currently in the index of YOUR site.
allinurl: Keyword Term – shows only pages with the keyword term in the URL
inURL: Keyword Term – Like allinurl but only for the subsequent query word
allintitle: Keyword Term – Displays only results with the keyword term in title
allintext: Keyword – Searches within text of pages only, but not in the links or page title.
allinlinks: Keyword – searches only within links, not text or title
cache: YourWebsite.com – Shows the Google cache information for that web page
info: YourWebsite.com – Displays links to related searches, back links and pages containing the URL (similar to as typing the URL into the search box)
Here are some lesser known commands that aren’t related to SEO, but they are pretty handy.
spell: Keyword – Google will check your spelling
stocks: Symbol – Google will look up the stock index
phone numbers – Enter a query string that looks like a phone number and have the name and address displayed

Google Changes Face Of Website Optimisation
Oct 7th
Search giant Google appears to be rolling out updates to its search technology hand over fist. The company has relentlessly churned out new technologies of late – a number of which have had a significant impact on website optimisation strategies. Not only that, but Google has a few cards up its sleeve as it looks to the future – including better integrated real-time listings and the continued expansion of its social media team.
Both of these future developments will change the way SEO agencies formulate their search engine marketing strategies. It is clear that the importance of social media in the search marketing sector is only going to increase; and rumours have even started flying around the web that Google wants to create an open-platform social media dashboard which will make searching these extremely popular sites that much easier. In fact, in terms of search engine marketing, it looks like Facebook, Twitter and Google-based marketing campaigns will become synonymous for many SEO companies.
But it’s the less headline-worthy changes that Google is making on a daily basis that have really grabbed our attention. While the smaller changes don’t get the same number of column inches, they can have just the same far-reaching effects on search engine optimisation.
Take, for example, Google’s local search capabilities.
According to Roger Janik, president and founder of ServerSideDesign.com, anyone with a Google Account has been able to personalise their search criteria to include local listings for a while.
Writing for Promotion World, he said that this has made locally-focused website optimisation for small and medium-sized enterprises extremely important. The fact that, with local listings, small firms can make headway in an extremely competitive marketplace if they adopt an effective website optimisation strategy, means the gap between small and large companies has narrowed somewhat. However, because a Google Account is needed for this local listings function, the number of people seeing them crop up on their search engine results pages is limited – although it’s still a pretty huge number.
However, Janik believes that Google is rolling out this feature as standard in the US, something that will completely change the face of search engine optimisation. As this development makes its way over the pond, effective, locally-focused search engine marketing strategies will turn from being a sound investment into a necessity.
